Editor's note: Apologies for the late posting here. We had hoped to get the episode out before The Website's Weyes Blood review. However, I ended up getting my foot stuck in a large hole. Now, you may think that the largeness of the hole would make it easy to get one's foot out. You don't know this hole. Anyways, that delayed things somewhat. Best New Podcast regrets the error.
We talk about the Best of the 1990s lists. We talk about Arctic Monkeys. We TALK about Taylor Swift. You're truly not going to find this much talking, about these specific topics, in this specific order anywhere else in Podcastland. That's the Best New Podcast guarantee!
Disclaimer: Due to some unfortunate technical problems, the audio on the Arctic Monkeys segment is...not up to our usual standards. Apologies. Best New Podcast regrets the error.
Look, it's episode 50. We were feeling reflective. The only natural course of action was to construct a set of millennial midlife crisis deep dives.

This month two artists move on from the mixtape and two more move into new band names. But first, your hosts take you on a tour of the 2013 BNM that almost was, as they spend about 20 minutes probably mispronouncing Jai Paul’s name.
Join us this month in dissecting the music careers of a big ol' pack of aging dudes. How does one age gracefully in dance music? How does one age gracefully in rock music? How long can we go without referencing either Chillwave or Sandinista! by The Clash? Some say we’ll never know….
How much consistency is too much? Are capital letters inherently more effective than lowercase? Should an artist’s non-musical antics influence their album reviews?
Who knows. Here’s another episode of Best New Podcast!

As you all know by now, Best New Podcast isn’t about fun. It’s about beating each other at a made-up game. For fun.
We award ourselves points based on the accuracy of our predictions. Those points are awarded as follows.
Closest to the actual rating gets 3 points, unless it’s a tie – then each get 1.5 points. In the event of a 3-way tie, each player receives 1 point.
A Perfect Pitch (a guess that ends up exactly matching Pitchfork’s rating) awards the winner an additional 4 points. If, on the other hand, there is a tied Perfect Pitch each pitcher gets 2 points, or 1.33 points each for a triple Perfect Pitch.
Finally, an accurately guessed “Best New Music” designation yields an additional 1.5 points, while an inaccurately guessed BNP removes 1.5 points from the player’s total.
Same as above, but all point values are cut in half.
Note: This scoring criteria will eventually reside in an assumedly much more pleasing-to-the-eye form on an honest-to-goodness Internet Web Site. At some point soon. The haunted Roomba that writes these show notes simply hasn’t gotten around to the task of building it yet. (It’s caught in a corner.)
A large, content-rich episode awaits you this month, featuring Deep Dives into new releases from Ariana Grande, Jessica Pratt, Panda Bear, HEALTH, and Cass McCombs.
Up top we discuss the recent dry spell in Best New Tracks and what it might mean in terms of the 'Fork’s evolving digital strategery. (Then, a few days after recording, they posted a new BNT, ending said dry spell. Is this all part of a larger conspiracy on the part of The Website to foil our segments? Likely. We’re looking into it. Meanwhile we’re confident that our larger points still stand.)

MP3 | Libsyn pageThe holiday season is well underway and we are in a celebratory mood as we prepare for what is unquestionably the most important event of the year: Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums of 2018!
